AIM:-
PRACTICAL MODULE:-
- To Determination Of Bulking Of Sand Test Method.
- As Per IS : 2386 (part - 3)
- Measuring cylinder 250 ml.
- 6 mm dia, steel rule.
- Enamel Tray
PROCEDURE:-
- Wet method
- Dry method
- Take the sample sand and fill the measuring cylinder to 200 ml.
- To make the necessary correction use the steel rule but don't compact sand.
- Transfer that sample to a container.
- Refill the measuring cylinder with 100 ml water.
- Now refill the sand into measuring cylinder and stir it well with the help of steel rod.
- Allow it to settle sometime.
- The sand will be below the 200 ml mark as shown in the below pic note this level Y.
- Repeat the same procedure for two more sample.

CAUSES OF BULKING BULKING OF SAND
- The moisture content in the sand makes thin films around sand particles. Hence, each particle exerts pressure. Thus they move away from each other causing increasing in volume. The bulking of the aggregates is dependent on two factors:
- The fineness of the aggregates
- Percentage moisture content
- As shown in figure -1 below, the bulking of the sand increases with the increase in moisture content. This happens up to a limit beyond which any moisture addition will decrease the volume.
